This is a hilarious ad from the 50s-60s? Mostly kids watch Flintstones so this is obviously marketed toward children. Ethos appeal because Barney and Fred are noted celebrities in society. Relaxation appeal.

Smoking really that Kool?

This is a cigarette ad for Kool cigarettes. I have no problem with people smoking, this is their choice, but this so clearly is trying to show people how their social standing will improve if they smoke this brand. The name of the cigarette is "Kool", the ad says, "B Kool" implying if you smoke them you will have cool status, and the man smoking them is getting the hot lady, being quite the seductress. If your primary goal is profit....not a bad marketing idea honestly. 

Strong Images

This is a famous photograph of Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist Monk, Thích Quảng Ðức, burning himself on a busy road in Saigon. This took place on June 11, 1963. The reason for this self immolation was protest. He was protesting the persecution of Buddhists by South Vietnam's government at the time. This is a very powerful image and eventually led to the entire world speculating the regime in command's policies. Enough pressure was put on the regime that it ended up being overthrown by an Army coup in November. This photograph is often seen as the turning point of the Vietnamese Buddhist crisis which eventually resulted in a disbanding of a corrupt regime.
