This is a famous photograph of Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist Monk, Thích Quảng Ðức, burning himself on a busy road in Saigon. This took place on June 11, 1963. The reason for this self immolation was protest. He was protesting the persecution of Buddhists by South Vietnam's government at the time. This is a very powerful image and eventually led to the entire world speculating the regime in command's policies. Enough pressure was put on the regime that it ended up being overthrown by an Army coup in November. This photograph is often seen as the turning point of the Vietnamese Buddhist crisis which eventually resulted in a disbanding of a corrupt regime.

This photo is insane. It has such a deep meaning behind it. Even before you know the story behind this image, you can already tell that something very powerful is happening. For someone to burn themselves in protest, they must have sincerely intense feelings about an issue. This is serious dedication.
I did not know the story behind this picture before i looked at your blog. Thank you for the information. i cannot even imagine to see someone burning themselves. They should have really intense reasons for doing that. From this photo we can see very clearly how the life was difficuly and unfair compare to now.
